I say the same thing I've always
said, Cliff--your games are worth
the wait. Feel no compunction about
delaying it. We'll all be happy
when you're happy. You shall bend
no mind before it's time.
Paul Valery supposed, “A
poem is never finished, only abandoned.”

In moments of weakness I occasionally
wonder if I'm the Fool who has been
separated from his Money, but I
fortify my resolve and reassure
myself that the day that it arrives
will be a glorious one, indeed.
I know that you're doing the best
you can and I am going to wait patiently
for as long as it takes.

Take your time, but please hurry
up.

Jeez Louise CLiFF!
If you do the math there will be
True Believers DYING before their
games arrive!
Which brings me to my humble offering
to you at the dawn of another new
year:
An aging physician, Hebraic
Trying hard to avoid the prosaic
Sends this plea to the Fool
Please don't be such a mule
And be done ere we BOTH are archaic.

I said it before and I’ll
say it again – get the game
done right, not fast. :-) Happy
holidays.

I loved the Fool's Errand...can't
wait for more awesome puzzle goodness!
Have a great Christmas and a Happy
New Year, and get us the game when
it's great, and not before.

You don't suck! No one who makes
a game that people play over 15
years later can possibly suck. I
still play Fool's Errand, I've played
it so much I know most of the puzzles
by heart even if I do hate the "Humbug"
maze- I get almost through it and
then lose the end so that the whole
blasted thing unravels and I have
to start over.... Hmmm- did I mention
that I hate you?
Take your time, get it right. I've
waited longer than this for a game
and that was back when they still
made games worth playing. I'll be
happy whenever it gets here.

I’m still a true believer
and have great faith that this will
be a fantastic adventure for us
all. Abe Lincoln also said “People
are about as happy as they choose
to be...” So, I am choosing
to be happy today, walking forward
like you and just enjoying today.
You are unique and that is what
will make this game so much fun.

Keep up the good fight... as a
fellow game developer I know first
hand how schedules can slip and
the work is never done. As a good
friend in this business once told
me, “A game is late for months,
or even years, but if it sucks,
it sucks forever.”

Thanks for the update. Now I can
enjoy the summer and fall with my
family instead of spending more
time inside with your puzzles.

Well if people don’t get
their Fool copies in November, they
might all show up in front of your
door. Just imagine all your true
believers queuing up in your street,
demanding the fool’s gold.
What would your neighbours say??
We know where you live, Canada
ain’t that big!

I’m starting to doubt that
this game will be finished while
I retain the mental acuity to complete
it. Will the game be coming with
a completed save to convince my
then-aged memory that I simply forgot
about solving it, or will that service
incur extra costs?

Good things come to those who wait
and I’m sure this one is worth
the wait.

As they say patience is a virtue,
some possess it, others just make
rash mistakes. Keep up the good
work.

I am sorry to hear about the delay,
but we’ll hang in there.

Good luck with getting it done
for November! As Douglas Adams once
said: “I love deadlines. I
like the whooshing sound they make
as they fly by.”

Understanding, but impatiently
waiting...

Take all the time you need; life
gives me more than enough to do
and precious little time and energy
to do it with, but better get that
thing done before you have to program
for a new operating system.

Best wishes on getting it completed
by the new date. I’m looking
forward to it.

Time sure flies when you have fun,
doesn’t it? Is it really bumped
to Nov 28? And if so what year?
Hahaha, one who waits for something
good... :-)
Anyway should it be true, its’
not a problem at all for several
reasons:
1) I got the old games working
again, now on a MAC emulator running
on my PC.
2) I think winter time is a better
time to spend with computer games
anyway, than warm summer nights.
I live in Sweden so I rather tend
to try to use the time in the summer
as much as I can for other things.
3) More time could mean better
stuff. I’m a programmer myself
(different area though) so I know
what deadlines generally means.
Normally something always has to
give. Quality, content or deliverytime.
The golden triad of which you can
only keep two fixed under control
with the third one let loose...And
in this specific case I prefer it’s
quality and content over time!
4) I can hardly think of a better
christmas present to give to myself.
:-)
And besides, starting to complain
now, I wouldn’t be much of
a true believer, would I? ;-)

I’m (of course) disappointed
by the additional delay. Don’t
worry, however – I’m
not going to ask for a refund. Your
prior games have given me enough
enjoyment that I consider the money
well spent even if The Fool and
His Money never finds its way to
completion (please let that not
be the case though).

Relax. Don’t worry. I wan’t
one of the earliest true believers
for nothing. I firmly believe that
the journey will well be worth the
wait. To be honest, I’m surprised
we were even able to get you to
do this.
I remember when I first saw the
advertisement for the Fool’s
Errand for the PC. I was floored.
Finally, someone had made a game
for people like me. I had played
adventures and role playing games
for quite a while. But Fool’s
Errand....it was exactly what I
had always wanted. And as I told
you before, somewhere around here,
I still have an original set of
Puzzle Gallery disks, just in case,
by some miracle, another set of
puzzles ever appeared.
I honestly feel a bit selfish getting
you to do this for us. No matter
what, think not that your efforts
are unappreciated. I can’t
say that I didn’t feel a bit
of a pang with the delay, but I
put it into context. The product
can only get better with time, and
if I’ve waited this amount
of time for another Cliff Johnson
game, what’s some more time?

I’m reminded of the “A
Fool and his Money are soon parted.”
Santa promises before Christmas
but i’d rather have CLiFF
promise even though I may still
believe in Santa. Keep working on
it ‘til then,

Yes, it is correct. Being a programmer
myself, I understand how deadlines
need to be organic things. ;-) It’s
better to get it right than on time,
in my opinion.

No sweat - patience I have.

Take your time.

As of June I’ll be changing
address, so it’s probably
best to update things... Though
whether Santa’ll be given
his delivery of The Fool and His
Money is a point of contention which
I shall not dwell upon ;-) Still,
I’m really looking forward
to having my brain bent around a
pole, frozen to subzero temperatures,
in Antarctica. If that’s not
a brain freeze to be reckoned with
then I don’t know what is.
I do have one small request of
you, and that is that should your
plans for more 3 in Three come to
fruition that you remain true to
the quirky art style of the original
classic - it’s one of my all
time favourite puzzle games. I can’t
say that I care much for the new
cartoony “hey wow, Flash can
scale things” style that was
used for the web based word puzzles.
That Mac Chicago font is just so...
I dunno. It gave the 3 her personality
and matched the art style perfectly.
Those sounds, too... Bwawawaawaawaaaa...
Plonk! Shhhewwww...
Unlike Fool where you’d go
mad for hours, I liked that 3 in
Three was solvable by mere mortals.
Well, at least once the secret to
your devilish schemes was deduced.
Those ‘change one tile and
a connected set will also change’
made me resort to random clicking
every time though. I never quite
‘got’ them.
Believe it or not, I first played
3 in Three when I was in Grade 5
and got maybe 70% of the way through
before I was stumped. Two of my
intellectual rivals from the year
above (we had composite 5 / 6 classes)
actually completed the whole game.
Needless to say I was amazed, yet
at the same time just a touch jealous
;-)
Thanks for all the laughs so far.
May you now, finally, ultimately
be well on the road to the final
goal to the Fool’s Money!

Although I don’t like the
pushback because it means I’m
getting the game later, if it makes
you happy with the completed project,
then I know it will be worth it.
I very much look forward to being
challenged by a game once again.

I have faith that all good things
in life are worth the wait. Good
luck as you continue your work.
Looking forward to Christmas!

Hang in there mate - I’ll
look forward to November 28th :-)

I wish I could offer to help out.
I have really enjoyed everything
so far and waiting certainly isn’t
a problem.

Take the time necessary to creat
a great experience. I loved spending
many an hour on Fool’s Errand
on my Mac
Plus back in the day.

Nice to hear from you, you weirdo,
your newsletter is also refreshingly
different and an inspiration to
my bored brain.

Let it take as long as it needs
to, I’ve waited years for
another Fool’s Errand, I can
wait a few more months.

Of course I will wait. “They
also serve, who only stand and wait.”
It will be a nice Christmas present.

I just wanted to say... thanks.
I first played Fool’s Errand
on the Mac when I was around 9 years
old, and it left such an impression
on me that about a year ago I decidedto
see if it was still around. It was
also my introduction to the Tarot,
and a few months ago I bought myself
a deck and a book to do readings.
I’m currently playing the
crappy DOS version when I do play,
although having solved the puzzles
a number of times already, it’s
less fun. But the story still makes
me smile.

Just the hope that I can one day
experience anew all the agony and
joy of playing one of your games
is worth the price of admission.
Just keep on doing what you are
doing. The game will be ready just
exactly when it is supposed to be.

As I am a TRUE BELIEVER, I appreciate
the notice of bump. Keep at it and
make it worth the wait.

F.Y.I. my husband brought the first
game for me years ago and we played
it together. When he saw that you
are working on number two he raced
to get money to you. Tahnk you so
much for the years of fun the the
first fool game has given our family.
We are now playing it through again
with our thirteen year old!

No worries! Take your time -- all
that matters is that when it comes
out, it’s as good as you can
make it.

Thanks for not troubling me with
any news of a deadline bump, though
I wouldn’t be overly troubled
anyhow, at least not by that news.
The quality of the work is the most
important thing. I’m sure
I’ll find the wait worth it.

As a developer I know how things
go from time to time. I’d
much rather have it good than have
it now if it comes down to a choice.

Congratulations on your recent
marriage. We “women”
can be demanding (just blame the
delay on her - ha, ha)!!!! Since
I have been playing your games since
the beginning it will be well worth
the wait!!!

Naturally, I am disappointed, but
I am unmoved in my enthusiasm for
your venture. I also know that Santa
always keeps his promises!

I am looking forward to The Fool
and His Money whenever you feel
it is finished. There is something
about Bristish Columbia —
I know whenever I visit it seems
that everything slows down.

”All good things to those
who wait”. Never has it been
more true. Keep up the good work!
What’s another 6 months among
friends anyway?

Best of luck with The Fool –
I’ll be here and waiting WHENEVER
it all comes together – and
I have every faith it WILL come
together. Looking forward to it.

I grew up on Fool’s Errand
and 3 in Three and cannot wait for
their further adventures. You are
a genius and you make me feel like
one when I beat your games.

I appreciate the news update and
I don’t mind waiting if the
end result will be as good as Fool’s
Errand and 3 in Three. November
28th will make a good birthday present
to myself.

Thank you again for taking the
time to make these games. It’s
been a longer wait than I might
have hoped for, but considering
I had previously given up on ever
seeing the like again it’s
well worth it. In the meantime I
shall content myself with the daily
ciphers. Have a wonderful day,
Postscript: when the Fool finally
leaves for his next adventure, are
you by any chance going to be making
any more of the 3’s puzzles
afore your next major production?

Thanks and keep at it -- your original
games were some of the best I ever
played back then.

No one wants to stay inside solving
puzzles during the beautiful spring
and summer months. It is definitely
a fall/winter dark evening activity.
I am looking forward to a frustrating
time.

Please take your time to make it
what you want it to be.

You just hang in there and take
care of the things that just you
can do. And we (the lesser gifted
in the wonders of making PAINFULLY
hard games) awaits (with still hope
having brain enough) that we can
look forward to having a nice time
cracking the riddles and other devilish
problems. OH happy times of innocence,
soon very soon we know better. =))))

Keep at it, we are all anxiously
waiting!

I’ll wait as long as it takes!
I’ve never enjoyed any other
games as much as I enjoy yours.
It’s like the other games
are made for alien beings, or something.
Don’t appeal to me at all!
One of these days I have to get
around to finding the codes for
your older games and installing
them on the new computers so I can
play
them all again!

I don’t mind the time it
takes. Honestly, Errand gave me
so many hours of pleasure that I
just see this as a sort of paying-back.
And the distance between when I
first became a True Believer and
the eventual release date is becoming
so great, I no longer feel like
I just pre-ordered a game...I feel
like I’m a patron.
While visiting some college friends
in North Carolina last weekend,
I informed them that you were working
on the Fool’s Errand sequel,
and they were just as excited as
I. Not excited enough to become
a True Believer...at that point
anyway. But I left them with your
website address and a bug in their
ear. And when they all yelled at
me to come downstairs to begin the
next game of hearts, I stayed in
front of the computer just so I
could see my own name go floating
past the head of the fool. Lucky
me.
Yes, I’ve been a True Believer
for the span of three e-mail addresses
now. That means you’ve outlasted
any romantic relationship I’ve
ever had.

It just heightens the antici..................................pation!
;-)

I can’t wait for this game,
but take your time, good games are
supposed to be delayed, it’s
the natural way of things.

I savor in the anticipation of
the moment when the Fool and his
Money is released... until then,
please consider the words of Gilbert
Chesterton, “An adventure
is only an inconvenience rightly
considered. An inconvenience is
only an adventure wrongly considered.”

Keep plugging away -- we all know
it will be worth the wait.

I haven’t run out of patience
yet. As they say, “Good things
come to those who wait”.

I’m a patient guy and eagerly
awaiting the result! Good luck!

Arrrrrrrgh!!!! I’ll be in
Vancouver in three months. If I
have to track you down and chain
you to the computer, I swear I will.
