I’ve been checking out your
site and following your progress
fr`om time to time. I (and probably
many others) are in awe of your
enormous undertaking and perseverance.
Best of luck in the final final
stretch and I look forward to toasting
your success and treating you to
dinner when its all over.

Just keep up the hard work. It
will all be worth it while I am
playing the game!

Let’s do the time warp again.

No worries---The wait has been
long, but I know it will be worth
it---don’t be so hard on yourself---this
is supposed to be fun...are you
having fun? You will when everyone
wants to buy your game!!

Though it pains me greatly, I shall
take comfort in knowing that when
TFahM is finally delivered, it will
be a product of the greatest quality,
and it will certainly have been
worth the wait.

No problem, Cliff! Hang in there.

As I said before - I’d rather
wait for a good game.

Take your time, get it right. I
have faith that you will get it
done, no matter how long it takes.

And the offer goes back out - if
you want a volunteer fan to help
for no monetary reward, this True
Believer stands ready. God Bless.

Well, we’re pretty
anxious to see it ourselves. Good
luck, I have no doubt it will be
worth the wait!

Take Your Time.

Dear Cliff: looking forward to
seeing the, I’m almost certain,
brilliant final product. Keep smiling............

Keep going, Cliff; we believe in
you!

To CLiFF the creator most cool,
While laboring on your new puzzling
jewel
We bid you remember
Whether Nov- or Dec-ember
We believe in the “bon mot”-ley
Fool
A month or so isn’t that
much longer at all. Keep up your
sprits. The end of the words is
nigh! Good luck with the final bits!
P.S. Would prefer not to think
up a rhyme for January. :-)

Cliff, I am one of many who will
gladly wait as long as it takes!
Do it right the first time--we’re
with you.

No problem! Take your time, I’m
sure it’ll be worth it.

Cliff, first things first, your
games kick ass. second take your
time to make sure this is even better
then any of them. Thanks for being
honest. good luck and a who hoo
to you.

I wait with bated breath. I’ll
wait until you’ve taken the
time to get it right! Best of luck
to you.

Like most Red Sox fans, I believe.

As a TRUE True Believer, I am willing
to wait while you make it as good
as I just know it’s going
to be. The only thing you could
do that would make me mad would
be to jump off a tall building without
first finishing the game. For that
I would come and get you big time,
wherever you might have wound up
as a result of your ill-timed leap
into space.
Suffer on, brilliant and creative
one - we are drooling in anticipation.

Chin up old chum. We’re still
behind ya.

Don’t sweat it. As a developer,
I understand the whole deadline-creep,
and as a huge
Fool fan, I am more than
content to wait until Fool and his
Money meets your seal of approval.

What’s another seven months
compared to seventeen years? I can’t
wait to play your new game. I’ve
loved your games since 3 In Three
came out. Thanks for the intelligent
fun you create!

Working in the video game industry
I can say that delays happen all
the time. What makes your delay
of game livable is that most game
companies employ hundreds to make
their high tech video entertainment
and then push back games for up
to a year at a time with no explanation
at all. Try dealing with irate customers
that pre-ordered HALO 2 for their
xbox to find out it was pushed back
all the way to next christmas with
no reason.
I’m sure whatever you turn
out will be a wonderful game and
worthy of the FOOL series heritage.
And it gives me time to finish the
rest of the BEST OF CLIFF cd that
I am enjoying. Thanks for the updates
and the dedication to your fans.
I will miss the rivulets in the
meantime though!

Another delay, sigh.... Disappointed,
you bet your anagrams I am, but
I think you’d be insulted
if I weren’t. I am of the
school of “send us it when
it’s finished and not before”.
I’ve played enough half-designed,
poorly written, multi-patched games
in my time, thank you, and for a
game such as this, I can wait longer.
When I first saw the advertisements
for Fool’s Errand so many
years ago, it filled me with great
happiness that some one was making
a puzzle game adventure. And it
was even more so after playing it.
I don’t want to describe to
you the great number of years I
held on to my floppy version of
Puzzle Gallery praying that one
day you might release an expansion
to it. (BTW: I still own it!) So
this is such sweet misery knowing
that the wait must go on, but when
it’s over....va-va-voom!

Thanks for your li’l note,
automatically generated though it
may be. I’m still a believer,
so just do what you must to get
this game out in the condition all
your believers have come to expect.
Thanks for your continued efforts
with both the game, and with keeping
us appraised of your progress.

Here, there Is much WeepIng and
waiLing and gnashing of teeth. The
howLs of those Whose puzzle AddIcTion
shall GO unfed are piteOus, but
in the enD there is some soLace
in their breasts, for they know
that throUgh this delay even more
devilish and demoniaCal enigmas
shall be posed, more riddles will
be unveiled, and more twisted sKeins
shall be woven. We are not the last
of those who care, and we look forward
to All Hallow’s Eve.

I hope there will be no further
delays. As you say the suspense
is killing me.

I used to work in Customer Service
for Origin during it’s hey
day – Ultima 6, Ultima 7,
Serpent Isle, Wing Commander…so
I know all too well about moving
release dates…and can sympathize
with you. At least you don’t
have producers yelling at you for
finding more bugs 24 hours before
the shipdate…

The Fools Errand was hands down
the best game I’ve ever played,
and I can’t wait for the sequel.

Please take as long as you need
to complete this game, as we all
want it to be the best you can possibly
do. We’ve been waiting for
many years for the sequel - a few
more months won’t hurt. Besides,
I’m sure there will be a one
month drop in the country’s
economy as all of us fools divert
our entire attention to solving
your puzzles, and to stop working,
buying stuff, or eating anything
but power bars (OK, maybe donuts,
too). Thanks for your efforts.

Sorry to hear that the project
is moving along slowly – I
can’t wait to start on your
new “witty tale of puzzling
twists and turns.” I know
how software development can be,
though – I designed and programmed
a few products for Broderbund Software
a while back. (Can it really be

I am looking forward to it. I appreciate
your high standards (that is it,
isn’t it?) and hope the process
proceeds smoothly.

Being a true Gemini, thus “the
master of the unfinished project”,
I have yet to finish ANY of the
previous Fools games, so I would
have nerve expecting you to rush
this latest installment to press
before it’s time. Take your
time and do it right.

Noooooooo! Still, I can’t
blame you - it’s a huge project
and it’s best you retain the
whole “it’ll be ready
when it’s ready” concept
that’s so lacking from the
rest of the industry...

We are waiting patiently, with
slavering mandibles.

I’m not concerned about the
delay. Of course I would love to
have the game now but perfection
takes time. Take your time and do
it right. We will be here when it
is complete.
We have faith.
We believe.

Sorry to hear that I have to wait,
but I know it will be worth it.
Good luck!

I’m so very looking forward
to this.
I’ve been charmed since I
first came across Fool’s Errand
when I moved to the US from Canada
in the fall of 1990. It saved me
from going insane.

Keep up the good work Cliff, we
all know it is worth it.

Although I am sinking deeper into
CJ game withdrawal, I do believe
in your ability to create a game
worth the wait. I’ll be patient
and play some adventure games until
the fall. (deep sigh)

I’m sure the game will be
all the better for the delay.

I, and I’m sure many others,
have been anticipating this luscious
transport back in time. As a developer,
I know the choice between rushing
through a project to meet a deadline
and pushing it out at the risk of
angering the gods is tough. I applaud
you for making the correct choice.
Especially with your work, which
i appreciate for it’s wit,
sarcasm, and cleverness, quality
and depth are king.

Looking forward to playing it --
once YOU think it is ready. Keep
up the good work.

Have you considered outsourcing
to India? I’ve heard it’s
a great way to cut costs. Seriously,
at the company where I work we’ve
just had the date for the approval
of the start of negotioning the
scope of a project slip two months,
and yet they still want our group
to project the project end date.
Seeing into the future is fundamentally
hard. Good luck!

Re: your Fool with no Money. Well,
now, that’s not quite true.
You *do* have the checks of the
true believers. That should keep
you in macaroni & cheese until
the game ships & bazillions
of people buy it.

Take as long as you need to put
out a good product. Don’t
sweat it. I’m looking forward
to the “ah-ha” and “aww-right”
of TFaHM. Thanks for the update.

Ah, slipping again, eh? That’s
OK. I’m sure it’ll be
worth it.

Just finish the bloody thing, already!
And in your next life, make crappier
games so people won’t be on
pins and needles like this.

That’s a shame, but do what
you have to, to make it right.

Good luck with the game! I’m
SURE it will be worth the wait.
With each and every delay, I begin
to increasingly wonder just exactly
who the fool is here. :-(
But I suppose that even if you
end up _never_ completing the second
installment, the pre-order fee is
but small compensation for the astounding
experience I had with the first
one. Good luck! Creating a true
successor to The Fool’s Errand
is a task that seems nigh impossible
in my mind. But if anyone could
do it, it’d be you.

Keep on soldiering on. We support
you whole-heartedly!!!!!

Now I’m getting’ antzy
for the game. I really, really,
REALLY hope you are going to do
a sequel to 3 in Three. It was always
my favourite game on my first Mac,
a Mac Plus.x

It’s too late for the emotional
suffering. I have been hooked on
your games too long. I guess I could
wait till the cows come home.
I remember 10 years ago when I
emailed you about the fool’s
errand and asking about fool’s
two. You send me a copy of the puzzle
gallery. I never forgot that and
have been a fan of your work for
many years. I will wait and wait
as a True Believer should. Being
a Pastor I have learned about patience.
If you don’t have patience
you can’t be a good Doctor.
Have a great day. Get back to work!
(HE HE)

As ever, you remain awesome. Looking
forward to the game. Miss your newsletter!

Not bad news at all. If it is not
exactly as amazing as you envisioned
then what would be the point?
YOU need to love it first and If
you can’t fully focus or are
overwhelmed..that is ok. Take your
time. It will be so much better.
You cannot revolve your projects
around others impatience or a self
imposed deadline that just didn’t
work out. That’s life. Quality
#1, everything else doesn’t
really matter in the grand scheme.

I eagerly await Halloween but even
if it is later than that I will
be happy to wait. My sister-in-law
sent me a ticket to Spain for April
Fool’s Day anyway.

Don’t let me keep you from
working hard at TF&HM - at least
it didn’t turn out to be an
elaborate April Fool hoax, although
I was starting to think that maybe
it’s the “...are soon
parted” bit that I should
be worried about (and I’m
sure I’m not the first nor
the last to think that :-)
Just wanted to say that I know
it will be worth the wait, and that
I wish there was some way your eager
audience could help you: but that
would be kind of missing the point,
I think.
So this is to confirm that the
contact details you have for me
are correct, and that I don’t
anticipate them changing in the
near future. Next decade I can’t
be so confident about, but I have
every confidence that TF&HM
will have been completed by then.
Won’t it?

It’s nice to see quality
over a rushed product (as seen so
much these days). Take your time,
and I eagerly await it’s release
(as well as a sequel to 3 in Three!)

Well I won’t lie and say
I’m not dissapointed. However,
I’ve waited 15 years for this,
another six months won’t kill
me. You’re on my short list,
along with Terry Pratchett, Norah
Jones, Neil Gaiman and Tim Burton
- whenever, wherever, however you
release a new work, rest assured
I will be there, cash in hand.

One of your games is well worth
waiting for. I am certainly willing
to wait until you do it as it should
be done. Best of luck with it, and
I sure look forward to playing it
when you’re done.

I will await your effort with a
smile.

When I considered whether to pre-buy
your game I knew it was likely there
would be delays. I really do believe
you will finish it but I had to
consider the worst-case scenario:
what if it is never released and
you disappear without refunding
the money? I immediately realized
that if that did happen I couldn’t
begrudge it you, because you have
earned at least that much Tribute
for making it possible for me to
enjoy The Fool’s Errand all
those years ago (the others games
too, but especially TFE).
Do what you need to do to make
yourself proud. I will welcome The
Fool And His Money whenever it is
ready.

Thanks CLiFF! I am very much looking
forward to your new game. And...I
hope that you don’t stress
out too much about the release date.
I can easily wait. Waiting makes
it all the more fun.

Take your time! Don’t kill
yourself to get it out; release
it when it’s ready to be released.
Oh, and I just found out you did
the animation on “Out Of Control.”
You’re like the king of enchantingly
bizarre and amazing things. Is it
safe to assume Terry Gilliam was
your main inspiration? {Yes}

I knew I should have sent the money
sooner so I’d be earlier in
the compendium. :-) (I can’t
think *why* I wanted to wait until
after I’d completed the 1st
Annual puzzle, and even then I was
late after that. Oh well.
Look, I’ve had the displeasure
of knowing that the money I paid
for 3 in Three when it first came
out from CinemaWare probably never
got more than a pittance to you,
if that much. And I bought an NEC
single-speed CD-ROM drive for the
Mac when they were the latest thing
and some $600, just because I’d
heard a rumor that Fool’s
Paradise was coming out on CD-ROM
“that year.” (I was
only just out of college then, and
hadn’t been exposed to the
term “vaporware” yet.
Ah, youth.)
So, you want me to get upset at
having to wait a mere 7 months more?
Just for finally getting some cash
directly to you? Ha! I wouldn’t
be very worthy of the title “True
Believer” then, would I?
And “That’s *TRUE* Believer
to you, Mister.”
